Mothers-to-be are amazing!
The female body is amazing. The fact that women can create life is almost a superhuman feat in itself. But some women accomplish things during pregnancy that redefine "superhuman."
During the 2012 Olympics in London, Nur Suryani Mohamed Taibi, from Malaysia will be the first female shooter her country has ever sent to the Olympics. Even more amazing: she will be 34 weeks pregnant when she competes!
Amazingly, the 29-year-old is not the first athlete to compete in the Olympics while pregnant, but she is the first one to compete so late in her pregnancy. After receiving clearance from her physician to travel to London at such a late stage in her pregnancy, Nur Suryani now worries that her baby will kick at the crucial moment when she aims her rifle.
Though she qualified for both the 10-meter air rifle and the 50-meter rifle three position events, she will only compete in the 10-meter event, as her burgeoning belly makes it nearly impossible for her to shoot from a prone position.
So, for all you mothers-to-be out there remember that, despite the morning sickness and the potential stretch marks, your bodies can do amazing things! And, check out Nur Suryani as she "goes for the gold" in the 2012 Olympics. With her eight-months-pregnant belly, she should be easy to spot.
Let the games begin!
